On the first Friday evening of every month, the artists who work in Barracks 16 at Arts District Liberty Station open their studio doors to the public. Visitors can wander through the historic former Navy barracks, see paintings, sculpture, mixed media and ceramics right where they are made, watch live demonstrations and talk directly with the artists about their work.
Arts District Liberty Station is San Diego’s largest arts and cultural district, home to galleries, artist studios, museums, dance and theater companies in the restored Spanish Revival buildings of the former Naval Training Center, and a designated California Cultural District. Open Studios are free and family-friendly, and with free parking and plenty of restaurants nearby it is easy to turn the evening into a night out. Participating studios vary from month to month, and dates around holidays such as New Year’s Day can shift, so check before you go.
