About Art Walk in Little Italy

This year’s Art Walk in San Diego’s Little Italy has been renamed “Bella Vita Fest.” The event features over 250 artists, live performances on several stages, interactive art activities for families, and a variety of food options.

Taking place during Italian Heritage Month, the festival also incorporates wine tasting, adding to its cultural focus. The two-day event will pay tribute to the Madonnari, European street artists from the 16th century, by transforming the streets of Little Italy into a space filled with color and creativity.

A notable feature of the festival is the creation of more than 50 chalk art pieces, which will be drawn live on the pavement for attendees to observe.

How to Participate as an Exhibitor?

Artists wishing to participate in the Art Walk Little Italy must complete a thorough application and jury process. The event is open to fine artists from both the U.S. and Mexico, with applications currently only considered for waitlist positions. Early submissions are prioritized for booth placement, making it important for artists to apply as soon as possible.

Only original fine art created by living artists is accepted, while crafts, mass-produced items, and wearable art (except fine jewelry) are prohibited. The jury assesses each application based on the quality of the artwork and the professionalism of the booth display. A critical part of the application is a photo of a previous booth setup, which must showcase artwork mounted on walls with systems like Pro-panels or grid walls. Easels or art displayed on the ground are not allowed.

In addition to artistic standards, participants must meet local requirements, including holding a California seller’s permit and liability insurance, which must name the City of San Diego and Art for People as insured. Artists doing business in San Diego for six or more days per year must also have a San Diego City Business License.

Selected artists are required to be present at their booth for the entirety of the two-day event. The festival runs from 11 AM to 6 PM on Saturday and from 10 AM to 5 PM on Sunday. While booth spaces are provided, artists must supply their own white, professional-grade display tents, though rental options are available for an extra fee.
