The Museum of Us, located in San Diego’s Balboa Park, is an anthropology museum housed in the historic California Quadrangle. Originally established for the 1915 Panama-California Exposition, the museum has evolved significantly, showcasing cultural artifacts from around the world and emphasizing the human experience through history.
Founded during the Panama-California Exposition, the museum’s collections began with contributions from noted archaeologists like Dr. Edgar Lee Hewett. Over time, it grew to include artifacts from pre-Columbian America, Ancient Egypt, and more. The museum’s name was changed from “Museum of Man” to “Museum of Us” in 2020 to reflect a focus on inclusivity.
