Timken Museum of Arts

In Balboa Park, San Diego, CA
The Timken Museum of Art, founded in 1965 and located in San Diego’s Balboa Park, is a celebrated fine art museum. The museum owes its existence to the Putnam Foundation, established in 1951 by sisters Amy and Anne Putnam, who were early advocates for the arts in the city. The Timken showcases a rich collection that includes European old master paintings, American art, and Russian icons.
Designed in a modern style with marble and bronze, the museum stands where the Home Economy Building once stood during the 1915 Panama-California Exposition. Since its inception, the Timken has expanded its collection from 40 to 60 significant works, including pieces by renowned artists such as Pieter Brueghel, Rembrandt, and John Singleton Copley.
