The Village continues to serve as an important community for local artisans.
The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD), situated in La Jolla, specializes in showcasing works created from 1950 onward.
As an important cultural institution in a border region, MCASD highlights the artistic connections between San Diego and Tijuana. Its exhibitions and collections reflect this binational focus, offering a broad range of perspectives.
MCASD operates from two locations, one in La Jolla and another in downtown San Diego, though the downtown site is temporarily closed. The museum’s permanent collection holds nearly 5,500 works, featuring notable pieces from influential contemporary artists. Through its diverse exhibitions, MCASD delves into issues of identity, culture, and the complexities of border life.
